Safeguarding and Palliative Care Training

Aim of Training: To increase awareness for those working with children or young people with palliative care needs about the impact that life limiting conditions can have on a child’s life, care and family and to identify the risks and specific safeguarding concerns for children with life limiting conditions and how to respond to them.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course you will be able to:

1. Understand the issues regarding capacity and decision making in young adults with disability, complex health needs and life limiting conditions.

2. Understand the child death overview panel process and know the differences between how sudden and expected deaths are reviewed.

3. Understand why children with life limiting conditions are vulnerable to abuse and neglect.

4. Understand the risk factors and warning signs to look out for which may suggest a child with a life limiting condition is suffering from abuse or neglect.

5. Understand best practice for responding to concerns about child abuse, how to talk to the child and or parent/ carer about your worries and how to act on concerns.
